Access
During our public hours, the libraries are open to anyone interested in conducting research. Before researchers are allowed to use the library, they must:
1. Check their coat, umbrella, or any other outdoor garment
2. Silence their phone
3. Agree to work with pencil, not pens
4. Sign in on the library registry using their full name and address (at the very least zip code)
The exhibition cases
Anyone visiting the museum may enter the library to view the exhibitions in the library cases, the artwork, or the room itself. They do not need to register or check their coats unless they are using the library. Please make note of their visit on the “looker” notepad.
Signing In
AIC staff members are not required to sign in (Circulation Staff should make note of their library use on the register) All other readers, including SAIC faculty and students, must sign in. In addition, SAIC students and faculty must swipe their ID card in the card reader at reception or circulation.
Coats and Umbrellas
No outdoor garments or umbrellas are allowed in the Reading Room. This is an important security issue. People who refuse to remove their outdoor coats cannot be allowed to use the library. There is a $1 charge for coat check.
Bags
We will allow any bag that Security will let into the museum into the library (Security Guidelines: nothing that exceeds 13 inches by 17 inches may be brought into the Museum).
Inspect all bags and books as patrons exit
Inspect all materials being carried out of the Library whether by members or staff. Staff members removing library materials should have a receipt from Circulation indicating how many items they may remove. This does not apply to ILLs (which will have orange book bands).
Reception Desk Opening
Turn the light on, pick up the Registration pad and “Lookers” notebook from the Circulation Desk. Switch the sign to read “Please stop at this desk.” to direct patrons to the reception desk.
Reception Desk Closing
Put the filled Registration Sheets in the appropriate manila file. Bring the registration pad to the Circulation Desk for the next morning. Turn the light off.
Miscellaneous
Readers may bring cameras into the Reading Room and may take pictures, but no flashbulbs or lights are allowed. Individuals who inquire about making donations of books, magazines or cash should be referred to the Reference Desk.

The person staffing the Reception Desk at certain times will be required to make announcements to let patrons know about the ending of services. Please speak loudly and clearly every time you make a Reading Room announcement.
